Math and Fun

For preschool with my 4 year old, I mostly get an hour or less of focused learning time. This amount of time is mostly due to the fact that my preschool loves to have this time in the day. Usually, kids at that age start getting antsy after 10-15 minutes.  Keep in mind that he is a bit of a keener and loves to help around the house!

For our math learning activity, we did something different and my son had fun doing it.

  • I laid different socks on the floor and told him that first he had to sort the socks and make pairs. Learning Concept: sorting into a category.
  • Second, he had to roll the socks into a ball. Learning Concept: brush up on those fine motor skills of rolling and folding.
  • Then, we counted the socks together. Learning Concept: counting by ones.
  • Finally, we set a bucket against a wall and played "sock toss"; another variation of playing basketball without the hoop. Learning Concept: brush up on gross motor skills of throwing and tossing.
